NORFOLK YACHT AGENCY

GIVES UP BROOM DEALERSHIP

James Fraser, owner and managing director of Norfolk Yacht Agency (NYA) has announced that the firm has given up its dealership for Broom Boats of Brundall.

The decision comes 18 months after financial difficulties and the subsequent sale of the Brooms boat-building and marina business by then owner and family descendant Martin Broom to Mark Garner, a financier and business consultant.

Under its new ownership, Broom Boats then appointed a number of dealers UK-wide and abroad, including NYA which is said to be the East of England’s most successful boat sales agency.

NYA was the first dealer to place an order for a stock boat to be built by the new owners and which has been delivered to NYA in August and currently without a retail customer. The boat, a Broom 455, has been paid for by NYA and has a retail value of more than £700,000.

James Fraser said: "This has been a difficult decision but the catalyst for it was the appointment of another agent on our doorstep to sell Broom boats of up to 40 feet. They took that decision knowing we did not agree with it – and despite our investment with the firm which was at the time significant in their re-start of production.

"Our company remains strong and profitable, we had hoped for a successful and long relationship with the new Broom management and its production team. Our future will now focus on our core activities – buying and selling used boats, brokerage and ourUK dealership for the Haines range of motor cruisers. We will be increasing our commitment to that firm which is also developing a number of new models."

NYA, which has branches in Brundall and Horning, was bought by James Fraser in 2003 and has steadily increased its business since then. In its last financial year NYA sold nearly 300 boats with a total value of about £10 million.
