Changes to the Boat Safety Scheme

The Boat Safety Scheme Management Committee has decided there needs to be new BSS requirements for CO2 alarms on boats and will be introducing this in April 2019.

Any boat that provide accommodation space/s will be subject to mandatory checks to ensure the alarms are suitable, in good condition and in the appropriate location/s.

The BSS will publish these new checks in detail in the New Year on its website.  You will also be able to find a list of CO alarms as recommended for boats by the manufacturers’ body on the BSS Stay Safe CO advice webpages, as well as best practice placement guidance.

Here at NYA we take safety very seriously and it has been decided that all NYA owned stock boats will be fitted with CO2 alarms as from 19th January 2019.

The mandatory new requirements will come into effect with the BSS from 1st April 2019.
