EAST COAST CRUISE – MAY/JUNE

06 June 2016

For the first time this season on our planned day of departure, we awoke to a bright morning and a decent forecast.

13 boats gathered at Berney Arms for our usual Skippers Briefing before departing on an 1100hrs Haven Bridge lift. We ran down the coast at 18 knots with the tide and a 10-12 knot North Easterly wind behind us.

The fleet ran well with no issue en-route meaning we were in good time for our entry to the Deben. Once we had rounded Orfordness, we slowed down to 8 knots, planning our ideal time to cross the bar at Woodbridge Haven into the Deben.

After a pleasant run up this pretty river, we entered the Tidemill Yacht Harbour at around 1630hrs. By 1700hrs the entire fleet were tied up, plugged in and relaxing.

The following day dawned with bright sunshine and the crews relaxed and enjoyed Woodbridge, coming together for a drinks party aboard Evita.

The weather changed for the worse after that with strongish North Easterlies so we delayed our exit from Woodbridge until Wednesday by which time the wind had decreased, even the sun hadn’t re-appeared. If you are going to get stuck somewhere, Woodbridge is a great place to do it and everybody was happy to stay.

We headed to Ipswich on Wednesday morning and had a very pleasant stay at the Ipswich Haven Marina, leaving on Friday for the short run down to Woolverstone. All of the crews got together later on for a very sociable evening at the on-site restaurant.

We departed on Saturday morning with a decent forecast for our run back to Great Yarmouth.

Another fun cruise in great company.
