Comments

  • Freya has had many adventures since she was purchased by her current owners in the spring of 2010. Brooms are often considered river boats, but Freya has demonstrated that they are reliable seagoing vessels that offer comfort and enjoyment wherever they sail. Freya is easy to handle, even single-handed, and is a reliable, spacious, and enjoyable boat. She never let her owners down despite their extensive and sometimes remote travels. She was happy at anchor as well as in marinas and was meticulously maintained, as her owners wanted her to be in full working order whenever they were on board, ready for cruising.
  • Various modifications were made for long-term cruising, including raising the internal saloon seating to ensure a good view out. The adjacent low coffee table was replaced with a dining table that could seat six in comfort, plus two on stools. Air conditioning was installed, which could be run on the generator, as well as efficient heating. There is a high-spec new fridge, a 3.5k generator with a water separator exhaust to ensure quiet running, solar panels, and a good battery charger.
  • Externally, the canopy was customised to allow quick opening and closing without removing or replacing the side panels. Additionally, a newly designed panel fixing was installed in 2021 to provide sunshade and better ventilation in the cockpit. Freya has a full set of new white covers for a hot climate, as well as the traditional blue ones. New white external upholstery was fitted in 2020. She has an external rear shower, an additional handle for mounting the retractable ladder, and hinged dinghy davits that allow access to the aft platform. The additional port entrance door makes it easy to take luggage or shopping on or off-board and can provide additional ventilation.
  • The owners cruised extensively as a couple; the captain was a yachting journalist, so Freya has featured in Motorboat and Yachting. They also enjoyed many holidays with friends and family, with Freya providing the perfect platform to bring guests with the two cabins and the galley table conversion.
  • Freya was bought from Brooms on the East Coast, taken up the Thames, back out to sea again, and across to France, then to the South Coast and on to Padstow, before proceeding up to the West Coast of Scotland. She spent seven years based in Ardrossan with regular cruises in the Western Isles, but also travelled through the Caledonian Canal for a visit to the East Coast. Freya was cruised to Northern Ireland, Wales, and down to Cornwall, before heading off to France, round the Bay of Biscay, stopping in France and northern Spain. After time in the Basque Country, she went on down to Portugal, including cruising up the Douro, before continuing into the Mediterranean. She cruised on to Gibraltar, up the coast of Spain, and round to the Bouches du Rhone. Freya came back through the French canals and spent a year cruising between Chichester Harbour and Cornwall.
  • The owners were actively using Freya; therefore, any issues were rectified immediately with a regular maintenance schedule.
