SOUTHWOLD – SEPTEMBER 2025
Its fair to say that the first couple of weeks of September were rather windy particularly the weekend before we were due to leave with 40 knot winds. The breezy conditions put some of our fleet off the idea of boating whilst work commitments and other factors reduced our 12 boat fleet down to 6.
The forecast for Tuesday was still force 5 but it was full on westerly so the sea state was fairly good. We departed Great Yarmouth via a 1730 Haven Bridge lift and had a super run to Southwold at 20 knots. The sun was just about to set as we made our way into Southwold Harbour and rafted together on the Blackshore Quay. Once secured with fender boards and shorelines in place it was in to the Harbour Inn opposite for a few pints of Adnams and some fish & chips.
The following day was leisurely walking, shopping, socialising, eating & drinking followed by more of the same on Thursday. We took the last rowing ferry crossing of the afternoon to Walberswick and went to the Anchor pub for a meal.
Friday dawned, still breezy with a southerly F4 wind but again the sea state was very comfortable for the fleet for the 20 mile run back to Great Yarmouth and back to the Broads.
Another very sociable and enjoyable cruise to end our season.
