We had 11 boats for our Woodbridge run which departed from Great Yarmouth on Sunday 27th April. It was warm & sunny with a light breeze for the short run to Lowestoft. We met in the RNSYC bar for drinks before enjoying a lovely Sunday roast. We talked about the passage for the following day and the latest pilotage information for ‘’crossing the Deben bar’’ before retiring to our boats.
Monday morning dawned bright and sunny again with lovely sea conditions for the 40 mile run to the Deben. One of our skippers put a drone up and got some great footage of the fleet crossing the bar. From the mouth of the river it is around 90 minutes to reach the pretty Tidemill Marina in Woodbridge.
We stayed in Woodbridge for two nights and enjoyed unbelievably great weather for April. From the Tidemill Marina we headed back down river and across the Estuary into the River Orwell. We locked into the Ipswich Haven Marina on Wednesday afternoon and had a very pleasant couple of nights and some enjoyable social time.
It looked like Fridays weather may get more unfavourable as the day went on with a NE wind picking up. We took the decision to depart early and locked out of Ipswich dock at 0500hrs as the sun came up over the river Orwell. The run was flat calm until we passed Aldburgh when as expected the ‘chop’ started to build. It was not anything to bother our fleet and by 0900hrs we were all safely moored in the RNSYC thinking about breakfast.
We had a lovely dinner together in that evening in the clubhouse and returned to Great Yarmouth the following morning in good conditions and back onto the Broads after a delightful week
